Two brands. one house, one family, one location.

Amador & Dry Diggings Distillery

The history of our small business is deeply rooted in the spirit of the Sierra Foothills.

In 2012, two distinct ventures, Amador Distillery and Dry Diggings Distillery, independently embarked on their journeys, each driven by a desire to craft high-quality spirits inspired by the unique history and abundant agricultural resources of the region.

on our regular commutes along Highway 49, Cris Steller, the proprietor of Dry Diggings Distillery, struck up a friendship with the Stratton family, founders of Amador Distillery, and discovered a shared appreciation for the region's history and the art of distillation.

The mutual admiration for the gold rush legacy and the bountiful produce of both Amador and El Dorado Counties, laid the foundation for a future collaboration.

Over time, a decision was made to join forces. Dry Diggings Distillery acquired Amador Distillery, marking a pivotal moment in the history of both businesses. Following the acquisition, the Jackson site was closed, and operations were consolidated at the current location in El Dorado Hills. This move not only streamlined the production process but also allowed for a stronger focus on crafting high-quality, locally sourced spirits.

Today, we create over 25 distinct labels, each with its own story and character.

While we explore a wide variety of spirits, we primarily distribute the more traditional types of spirits, allowing us to concentrate on perfecting these time-honored classics.

We take pride in our hands-on approach.

The time we take to ferment, distill, blend, and bottle all our products on-site, ensures quality and control in every step of the production process. This dedication to our craft results in spirits that are not just made in the Sierra Foothills but embody its very essence.

“You can take the whiskey out of the Sierra Nevada foothills, but you can’t take the Sierra Nevada foothills out of the whiskey.”

As we grow, our commitment to quality, working locally, and our shared love for the history of this region remain at the heart of everything we do. Our story is a testament to the enduring spirit of the Gold Rush era, and we look forward to sharing the taste of our heritage with the world.

We invite you to join us & look forward to raising a glass at your next visit!
